Please help prevent the closure of PoetsIN. Help us continue to help adults, children and young people with their mental wellbeing in times when anxiety, isolation and depression are increasing but government support is not.
PINners. our friends, our family. We cannot quite believe we are having to write this.
We should start this with a blanket statement; we need your
help.
So far, the UK government is offering financial support to
many sectors of our economy, but so far there has been no allowances and
financial support packages for charities.
What does this mean for PoetsIN? In a nutshell, it means we
could be in financial crisis at any moment of time. The majority of our income
comes from our services that businesses pay for. Therein lies the problem.
Right now, businesses are struggling financially too.
Our income is made up of:
* Invoiced services to businesses and other third sector organisations.
* Businesses donating funds to comply with their Corporate Social Responsibility.
* Grant funds – which are normally project focused and do not allow us to pay operational costs and overheads.
* Public fundraising such as the marathon, skydives, black tie balls etc.
* Donations and legacies.
The above list has been organised to illustrate – from the
top down – where the majority of our funds come from. We’ve worked hard to
retain as much business as we can, but there is a relative degree of
uncertainty as to how long the economy is going to be in lockdown and therefore
any one of our business customers could back out of utilising our services for
the time being.
We know that once the curve has been flattened and things
start to get back to normal we will be able to gain the lost business back – IF
we survive the current economic downturn, and right now, that is a big IF.
Especially when we aren’t sure the government are going to support charities.
This is why we need your help. We are fundraising for 6 months’ worth of overhead costs, to keep PoetsIN open and running during these tough times, and when these tough times wane but mental illness doesn’t. In comparison to many other charities that need 30,000 per month, we need 4,000 (ish) to keep operational; therefore, we need to raise 25,000 to cover us for 6 months. If we don’t, we might have to close and may never reopen. We categorically do not want this to happen.
Words from the Team:
“The thought of PoetsIN having to close has been plaguing my
relatively non-existent sleep. PoetsIN is, without a shadow of doubt, the best
thing I have ever done in my career and my life – minus my children, of course.
This isn’t just business to me. This is personal.
We have helped thousands of people with their mental health,
and have saved lives through that help. In return, I gain so so much from being
the co-founder and CEO. I learn, I am inspired, I heal, and I share my story to
give voice to those who struggle to use theirs.
Some of you may be aware of the difficulties I’ve had in my
personal life lately. A daughter with a heart condition, spending weeks and
weeks in a hospital away from home for 3 years – working from the high
dependency unit – PoetsIN gave me normality in the face of trauma. That same
daughter, my beautiful daughter, now is in an eating disorder in-patient
facility due to anorexia. With the lockdown, I cannot see her. Yet again,
PoetsIN provides me some normality and structure that my personal life doesn’t
afford me. It props me up while I feel low.
I need PoetsIN to stay open just as much as our current and
future service users do.
Please consider donating, even if it’s just a fiver. Every
pound helps. Please share. If your life has improved because of PoetsIN, please
share your story with your network and this post, and ask they donate to keep
us going.
If ever we needed the support the most, it’s now. Thank you.” – Sammie. CEO & Co-Founder.
“PoetsIN means the absolute world to me and to contemplate that we might have to stop what it is that we do isn’t something that sits well with me.
So much hard graft, so much hope and many leaps of faith to
get things running. Sacrifices, mistakes and learning, trials and tribulations,
and we, the co-founders were, for the first time (for two cynical pessimists/realists)
feeling optimistic about the future of the charity!
I’ve walked a winding road, had numerous jobs and I can (and
often do) say that this is the first time EVER that I am 100% certain of the
validity, application and success of what it is that I and we as a charity do;
and that we will be helping people on a global scale no matter how long it
takes.
We have changed thousands of lives and given hope where none
remained. We have brought people back from suicide, put smiles on faces, given the
lost a sense of purpose and belonging. Addictions, psychosis, self-harm,
depression, anxiety, social isolation – we have helped adults, young people and
kids manage all of these things.
Personally, I have managed my demons through helping others
with our workshops. Every time I put my money where my mouth is and share and
purge as I ask others to. It’s a beautiful thing.
This cannot end. People need this now more than ever. You need it. Thank you for anything you can do to help” – Paul. COO & Co-Founder.
“PoetsIN is not just a job for me. It’s a lifeline. A floatation device when I’m drowning in a sea of anxiety and depression. Words cannot express how rewarding it is to know that PoetsIN is that same lifeline for so many others struggling with mental illness. The thought of not having the ability to be there for so many people who need us the most in these times of uncertainty is absolutely heartbreaking.
Those who struggle with mental illness need us now -more than ever. Every pound makes an incredible difference. For everyone that harbours kindness in their hearts to reach these people in need -a simple thank you would never be enough to express our gratitude and admiration of your compassionate souls.” – Lish. General Manager.
Every penny counts. Every share counts. You count. Your support means the world to us all, professionally, but most importantly, personally. PoetsIN isn’t just a charity to us. It’s our lives. Our blood, sweat, and tears. It’s our everything.
Please help prevent the closure of PoetsIN. Help us continue to help adults, children and young people with their mental wellbeing in times when anxiety, isolation and depression are increasing but government support is not.
